FALMOUTH
Falmouth is a picturesque town, an ideal touring centre and the premier
resort for West Cornwall for a wide variety of visitors. Whether
you are on holiday or visiting Falmouth on business there is plenty
to do. The main beaches are Maenporth, Castle, Gyllyngvase and Swanpool,
they are of excellent quality and offer safe bathing.
The town centre includes a wide range of retail outlets including
high street names, craft shops, restaurants, tea rooms and public
houses.
From the quay there is a wide choice of boat trips and/or ferries.
An excellent choice is a trip up the river to Truro - enjoy the
scenery and spend a few hours in the Cathedral city before a return
journey. The historic and scenic Roseland Peninsula can be reached
via the King Harry ferry.
Many of the top attractions in the South West are within easy reach
of Falmouth including the Lands End complex, the Eden Project and
Flambards Theme Park.
For the more ecologically minded the Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Hayle's
Paradise Bird Park and the Goonhilly Earth Station make a fascinating
day out, and Cornwall has a wealth of National Trust properties
and beautiful gardens.
The Falmouth Maritime Museum is only a few minutes walk away, as
is the Princess Pavilion Theatre, Gyllingvase Beach and Pendennis
Castle.
If you are a "sporty" person, Falmouth is a haven for
all kinds of sailing activities (Falmouth has one the finest natural
deep water harbours in the world with excellent safe moorings and
marine facilities), the South Coast has some of the most stunning
scenery for the avid walker, and there are a wide range of sports
activities catered for in the area (for example - golf, surfing,
bowls, bowling, tennis, squash and the martial arts). There are
a number of fishing opportunities including deep sea, shark, trips
around the bay for mackerel or shore fishing off one of the many
quays or rocky outcrops. Catches can be excellent.
The Penwarren Guest House is proud to be a sponsor of the Falmouth
Town Under 12 Football Team.
Whatever your tastes, Falmouth and the surrounding area will have
something for you.
